City services are so woven into the fabric of our lives that it’s easy to take them for granted. We may not even realize our city is responsible for the services we’ve come to rely on.
Parks and trails, beaches, festivals, firefighters and police, recreation centers, and libraries – these are all city services. A recent survey1 revealed that 90% of Florida residents who have used a city service say it enhanced their life. To recognize all the excellent services that Florida cities provide, the Florida League of Cities created a series of Public Service Announcements (PSAs) highlighting the variety of services offered by cities of all sizes across Florida.
What Are Florida City Services?
Florida has over 400 cities, towns and villages, each offering varying city services depending on their community. Whether a city has nearly one million residents or less than 100, they provide a diverse array of services and experiences that vary from city to city to meet the unique needs of its residents.
From nationally recognized piers to award-winning local water and wastewater programs, Florida city services directly and profoundly impact our quality of life. City services and programs in Florida help residents feel inspired and safe and keep them active and going.
How Do Florida Cities Keep You Inspired?
Florida city services such as art exhibits, libraries, gardens, concerts and festivals keep you inspired. These services offered in many Florida cities foster creativity, provide cultural enrichment and promote community involvement.
More than three of four Florida residents say they have used a recreational or cultural amenity or service provided by their city in the past year1.
How Do Florida Cities Keep You Safe?
Florida city services such as police and fire departments, traffic control, emergency medical services, water testing and hurricane preparedness keep you safe. More than half of Florida cities offer firefighting services, and over 60% provide police2.
Residents rely on these services to protect their lives, property and well-being, creating a sense of security and peace of mind.
How Do Florida Cities Keep You Active?
Florida city services such as public parks, playgrounds, running trails, walking paths and sports fields keep you active. In Florida, 298 cities operate parks, 267 maintain outdoor playing fields, 90 have pools, 77 offer beach access, 42 provide golf courses, 38 maintain marinas2 and 167 have city-sponsored hiking, biking or jogging trails.
These spaces and activities contribute to residents’ mental and physical well-being.
How Do Florida Cities Keep You Going?
Florida city services such as public transportation, building maintenance and development, water quantity and quality, sidewalks and bridges keep you going. While most Florida cities maintain roads and traffic signs, some offer public transportation services, and 30 even maintain airports2.
These services and infrastructure contribute to the convenience and efficiency of residents’ daily lives.
